7/20/08...EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA...The latest report from Fly Guide Chip Jablonski... Little Lehigh Creek is 2.25 feet at Allentown and flowing at 70 cubic feet per second, which is below normal flow of 85 cfs... The water is gin clear and 62 degrees with the trico hatch in full swing... If you can be on the water by 7:30 a.m., Midges and Craneflies are also hatching... Recomended fly patterns include Tricos, Al's Rats, Honeybugs, Griffith's Gnats, Bivisibles, San Juan Worms, Parachute Adams, Pheasant Tails, Henryville Specials, Honeybug Inchworms, Cressbugs, Scuds, Red and Black Ants. Toward evening try Parachute Adams, they are fun!.. PLEASE NOTE I BELIEVE THERE IS A WARM WEATHER ADVISORY FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS, PLEASE USE CAUTION!... Last weekend I had 2 young kids out for 2hrs. of "FUN" at the fly stretch on the Little Lehigh catch and release section... They had an exciting time and could not stop talking about how many fish they caught and released, (per their grandmother)... This weekend I have an open weekend and I think I'm gonna tye some flies and get ready for the upcomming New York salmon run, which starts soon,(NOW)... A friend contacted me Tuesday 7-15-08, to say he hooked up on a Coho and landed it... He said it was an average size fish... It is not the time to go racing up there because of 1 report of a fish, but if your going up for some recreation, take your fly rod, you never know... 7/7/08...CENTRAL FLORIDA... Here's a little bit of Capt. Chris Myers latest report from last week.. "This Monday, I went on another tarpon hunting excursion in Mosquito Lagoon... Like the last one, I saw a few large fish in various places but got shots at none of them... I did encounter several schools of happy redfish and landed 3 on the fly... Tuesday, I fished with Canadian angler Doug and his sons Iain and Nairn... Their goal was to catch a Mosquito Lagoon redfish on a fly... Doug was first to hook up with an EP mullet style fly... Both of his sons followed up with reds of their own on the same pattern... Later in the day we targeted some very shallow tailing and cruising reds... We switched to a green and copper bendback pattern and Doug hooked his second red of the day... We added a couple more redfish and trout for an excellent day on the Lagoon... For more details on Chris's activities and some great fishing tips be sure to click on the link to his website by going to our SOUTHERN SCHOOL Page...7/6/08...Here's an end of the season report from AFFS member Capt. Chris Goldmark on Culebra Island that he called his "Reality Check"... "Something I try to do in Culebra every year is actually get out with a fly rod and fish for a couple of days for fun and to get a feel of what the degree of difficulty actually is each season... Spending months poling clients around the flats trying to get them to do with their rods what you supposedly would do with yours can jade you as an angler... It takes a few hours to get back in the swing but once I did it all came together... Two days on the flats, mostly wading, I'm happy to report Culebra still has lots of big fish and they're catchable... No numbers (I don't kiss and tell) but I've been smiling all week. Come join us next season. I'll make you smile!... So will Culebra!"... Chris called me on the 4th to chat about our local Jersey fishing now that's he's back in Cape May... If you want to experience fly fishing with a great guide for Stripers, Blues and some Weakfish and can't quite make it to Culebra yet than give Chris a call and book a trip with him while you can here in Jersey... He won't be here that long... 6/28/08...Fly Guide Chip Jablonski of WALK ON THE WILD SIDE GUIDES in Allentown, PA. latest report..."Little Lehigh Creek is 2.2 feet at Allentown and flowing at 71 cubic feet per second, which is below normal, water is 62 degrees, fishing isn't bad, it seems we are between hatches right now... We are getting sporadic reports of trico sightings, but many folks mistake Paraleptophlebia Mollis (up downers) for tricos... Paraleps are size 22 with a transparent, black tipped abdomen... Look for Tricos on the Little Lehigh around July... This weekend is the last stocking for the little Lehigh, our club will be stocking fish on Saturday... I have 2 youths that are going out on Sunday morning, we will be fishing the stocked area... Salmon River Pulaski NY...With the up comming holiday weekend if you are in this area, you may want to take your steelhead rod to the river and go for a walk... You never know, one could pick up an Atlantic or a Skamania steelhead... They should be releasing water for the kyaykers... After the release is the best time...Happy 4th everyone!"... 6/16/08....Capt. Mike Corblies reporting from Central PA... I had the pleasure of fishing the Yellow Breeches yesterday morning for a few hours with my good friend Chip Jablonski as we were guided on a private beat by local AFFS instructor Ken O'Malley... It didn't take but a few minutes for Chip and Ken to get into the rainbows and brown trout.. Ken rigged his own rod with a double fly rig of two nymphs ( a soft hackle and a gold ribbed pheasant tail ).. While Chip tried out his own simple nymph pattern and also his Wild Side Worm.. All of the flies produced fish.. I of course held the video camera for most of the morning but the boys coaxed and coached me into making a couple of casts and I had a couple of the Breeches trout on for a couple of seconds before they "undid" themselves... I did capture quite a few on film though, both above and below the water... You will be seeing some of the action in the near future here on the website... If you want to catch your own trout in Central Pennsylvania, than you should give Ken a call and he will put you on them... Our latest fishing reports from Capt. Chris Goldmark on beautiful Culebras Island in the Caribbean one of our very special A.F.F.S.locations..."I finally got over to our sister Island to fish the day with Gregg McKee... Perfect morning, good weather, and lots of Fish... Vieques has a fabulous fishery and anyone serious about flyfishing the flats should make a point of visiting Vieques. It doesn't get much better... Although the average bonefish size is a little smaller than ours, there are plenty of them in a totally pristine surrounding... Gregg poled me around several flats and in just a few hours I had shots at 6 Permit, dozens of Bones and even caught a hefty Mutton Snapper... Not catching Permit is something you get used to but I had forgotten the thrill of watching my backing disappear off my reel as a Vieques Bonefish goes nuclear... Greg will be accepting bookings in Vieques through July and we will both be back on our respective Islands November of 08... Fish the best of both worlds Culebra/Vieques... During season Flamenco has direct service between the two Islands at the high price of $25/pp... Book Gregg on www.wildflycharters.com or call 787 435 4833... Capt. Chris Myers CENTRAL FLORIDA SIGHT FISHING CHARTERS.. Here's some reports from Capt. Chris on recent fly fishing trips he guided... "Thursday was a fly fishing trip with Chad from Montana... It was a pleasant change to find slick calm water when we arrived... We never saw the sun all day but the water remained calm... We soon found ourselves surrounded by dozens of schools of tailing and finning fish... It was a fly fisherman's dream except for one thing... The fish would seem to let us get almost within Chad's casting range and then they would take off... We would approach the next group and the same thing would happen... Each time, the fish were five feet farther than Chad could cast... This scenario went on for nearly five hours before we gave up on them.. Chad is a long time fly fisherman but in his waters, there is rarely a need to cast over 30 feet... On this day, a 60-70 foot caster could have had double digit hookups... While travelling to our next stop, we came across a school of large reds tailing along the edge of a flat... As we got near, they dropped off into the deep water and vanished... I took Chad to the spot that produced the numerous trout last week and he used a clouser minnow and a 5wt rod to land ten small trout... It began to rain but we were determined to get a redfish on the fly. We tried one more spot and found some tailing singles... Chad finally hooked a redfish using a small black and chartreuse crab"... For the 08 Season Captain Chris's popular fishing reports can be accessed at any time by going to our A.F.F.S. Florida GUIDES / INSTRUCTORS PAGE and clicking on the link to Chris's website or by typing in http://www.floridafishinglessons.com Chris also does a lot of light tackle trips and some weeks he does not have any fly fishers aboard his skiff... The reports then are involved with lures and bait fishing and our readers on this site are looking for fly fishing information... Any week that Chris is guiding or fly fishing himself we will post that information here... But it is still a good idea to check his reports weekly to see how the conditions on the Central Florida waters are producing weather fly fishermen are using them or not.. You can always phone Chris @ 321-229-2848 for an up to the minute report... Check out the Pics on Captain Chris's website and pack your fly rods for a great fly fishing trip to Florida ...

SOME "CASTS" FROM THE CAPTAIN

-----------------------------------------------------------

I'm not able to keep up with a daily blog.. I just have too much stuff to do.. Like fishing, filming, editing, doing a little gardening and oh yeah, going to work now and then.. But I do have some thoughts and observations on some days that I would like to pass on to our website visitors, students and AFFS members that may or may not fit into a particular section of this website..
So this spot is where you will find them from now on..

7/10/08... I had a phone call yesterday from Jack and Georgi Kerr the promoters of the
Garden State Sportsmen's Show to confirm our attendance at their 2009 event.. Of course the answer was YES as it has been for the many years we have been exhibiting and performing at this great annual event.. The show will be held next year on January 8 -11 at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison and will feature our A.F.F.S. SIMUL-CAST SHOWS daily and our State Fly Casting Competition for kids age 10 to 17 on Saturday and Sunday.. I also spoke with our good friend and sponsor Eric Dodds today of WILDWATER FLY FISHING PRODUCTS and Eric let me know that he will be joining us at the Garden State Show with his full product display near our SIMUL-CAST POND.. WILD WATER plans to also exhibit at the big Sportsmen's Show in Harrisburg for the first time in 09 and will be at the ROCKLAND SPORTSMEN and SOMERSET FLY Shows as well.. On a personal note.. Congratulations to Eric and his wife on the birth of their 5th child this week.. Mother and son are doing just fine but we are not to sure about Papa yet...

7/7/08... I recieved a phone call today from AFFS member Skip Storch from the SHU-FLY FLY SHOP in Nanuet, New York.. Skip was quite excited and rightfuly so.. He wanted me to open an e-mail he had just sent me.. Our buddy Skip has been nominated for an ATHLETE OF THE YEAR category by ESPN.. This is an annual competition called the ESPYS AWARDS held by ESPN television that features several different categories of athletes from around the world.. For those of you that are not aware.. Skip Storch in addition to being an expert fly fisherman and a Pro AFFS instructor is also a world class long distance swimmer that has set some impressive records over the years including being the only known swimmer to make it from Florida TO Cuba.. ESPN just finished filming a background segment on him featuring some of his fly fishing guiding on Cape Cod, Mass... It will be aired on ESPN HD during the contests television special on Sunday July 20th at 9 pm EST.. The program host Justin Timberlake and sports celebrities like Lance Armstrong will announce the results of the competition.. You can help Skip become voted in as number 1 of the 4 finalists in his group by registering your vote on the ESPN website.. http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/specialsection/espys2008/ First register yourself to vote then scroll down the list of categories until you find the section for OUTDOOR ATHLETES Click on that Category and there is our own Skip Storch.. Pass on this link to all your fly fishing friends and any one else that enjoys sports... Congratulations Skip and good luck in the finals.. We look forward to watching the Show on ESPN HD

7/6/08... I recieved a nice phone call on the 4th of July from Capt. Chris Goldmark of Culebra Fly Fishing Adventures.. Chris just wanted to say hello and let me know that he would like to particpate at our booth at any events we have coming up in N.J. while he is back in the States for this Summer and early Fall.. If you are in the market for a nice day on the water, Back Bay flyrodding in beautiful Cape May.. Then give Chris a call @ 609- 827- 4536.. You might get to catch some Stripers, Blues or Weakfish and find out a few secrets to catching Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon from a world class Pro.. I know I'm looking forward to doing just that when Chris and I hit the water together for a day or two this Fall.. As we try and hook up with and film some of those mysterious Cape May, Speckled Sea Trout ( There NOT Weakfish ) that visit these waters during most Octobers.. YES you will be able to meet Chris at our booth at the annual FISHERMEN'S FLEA MARKET at the Convention Center in Cape May on Sunday October 19th before he heads back to Culebra in November.. Some guys just know how to live right.. Don't they....
