Mike Coblies announced that A.F.F.S. members Mike McCauliffe, John Collins and Captain Al Zalata will be joining him at our Rolling Fly Shop exhibit in the famed Catskill Mountains for the upcoming SUMMERFEST Show and Get Together at the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum in Livingston Manor, New York on August 7th & 8th.. Captain Mike and Captain Al will continue heading north fishing their way at some of the great New York and Vermont streams, lakes and ponds on the way to the annual FLY FISHING FESTIVAL held at the AMERICAN FLY FISHING MUSEUM in Manchester Center, Vermont on August 15th.. The largest and longest running Sportsmen's Show in New Jersey will be getting a "full makeover" with all new exhibits and many new attractions.. The Show was sold last year from long time promoter Jack Kerr to the MET EVENT GROUP of Moonachie, N.J. A seprate "Show within the Show" area featuring a new fly tying theatre, the 30' AFFS Rolling Museum Trailer and the larger size SIMUL-CAST POND for fly casting and kayak fishing demos are all being added to the Show.. Plus a great list of all new Seminar Room presenters is being developed for the Show that will run from Jan. 13-16th at the Raritan Center... New Smyrna Beach, Florida...5/28.. A.F.F.S. Director Mike Corblies and Jack Montague were the featured fly casting instructors at the annual FISHSTOCK TOURNAMENT - BOATING / FISHING SHOW in New Smyrna Beach.. Captains Mike Corblies and Al Zalata were in upstate New York for the BIG EAST SPORTSMEN'S SHOW at the TURNING STONE RESORT and CASINO near Vernon.. Al and Mike performed fly casting demos and gave seminars at the Show on all 3 days.. The first day of the Show brought inquiries from a couple of local guides on A.F.F.S. membership that we will be looking into.. We could use a couple of good local instructors in the Adirondacks and Southern Tier areas as we recieve inquiries from students from those areas every year... 3/21..Capt. Mike was in Georgia working with the graphics designers for our new little "Poetry Out House Trailer" WHAT THE HECK is it???.. You will just have to wait and see it to believe it.. I think you will all get a good laugh or two out of it...Captain Mike gave a talk on fly fishing destinations on April 21st at the North Jersey Trout Unlimited Club in Sparta.. T.U. seminars are free and open to the fishing public.. At the seminar the T.U. club auctioned off a trip for 2 anglers with Capt. "I recently gave a casting lesson on Barnegat Bay to John and Jack a father and son team from Cherry Hill.. They then successfuly headed to Andros for some bonefishing.. Mike Corblies were the fly casting instructors at the FLORIDA SPORTSMEN SHOW in Fort Walton Beach.. "We had the A.F.F.S. Casting Pond set up right outside the entrance to the Show and we also had a booth indoors to demonstrate fly tying, wood carving, hand out brochures, show videos of AFFS member locations and sell some fly fishing products. . We enjoyed meeting all of you that stopped by our seminars or for a casting lesson and we look forward to visiting the Florida "Pan Handle" region again real soon". Thanks again to Denise Oyler and her fine staff at the FLORIDA SPORTSMEN SHOWS.. We look forward to working with you again at the Fall FS Shows... 2/8/10..A.F.F.S. exhibited at the FLORIDA SPORTSMEN'S SHOW at the Lee County Civic Center in Fort Myers.. Captain Mike and Jack Montague were featured fly casting instructors and also presented seminars at the AFFS/REGAL VISE TYING THEATRE.. The Show was packed and our seminars and exhibit area was really "cooking" with enthusiasm for fly fishing in S.W. Florida...1/29 Friday and Saturday 1/30 we exhibited at the annual Charlotte, North Carolina FLY FISHING SHOW.. The weather was bad but attendance was OK (all things considered).. We signed up a new member Lodge in Alaska located on Prince of Whales Island called FISH TALES LODGE.. Welcome aboard to our first A.F.F.S. Alaska member.. 5/1/10..A.F.F.S. Director, Mike Corblies and the FISHSTOCK TOURNAMENT & FISHING/BOATING SHOW Promoter Drew Townes, have announced the participation of the A.F.F.S. "SIMUL-CASTING POND" and the ROLLING FLY FISHING MUSEUM & REGAL VISE FLY TYING THEATRE plus the A.F.F.S. Fly Fishing's Poetry Outhouse as a major attraction at this years event during Memorial Day weekend in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
In addition to several daily performances by A.F.F.S. member pros at the Casting Pond plus Kayaking Seminars and Fly Tying Demos.. A.F.F.S. will also conduct a fly casting competition for kids on Saturday & Sunday for children aged 10 - 17 with lots of great prizes for the contestants.. 4/14/10..A.F.F.S. Director Mike Corblies spoke to the members of the Fred S. Burroghs Chapter of Trout Unlimited on April 21st at 7:30 pm at Camp Jefferson, in Sparta, New Jersey.. The talk was about fly fishing destinations available with American Fly Fishing Schools members and particulary about saltwater locations that offer kayak trips. At the seminar T.U.auctioned off a flats boat trip for 2 anglers to fish this Spring with Captain Mike for Stripers, Blues and Weakfish on Barnegat Bay.. A.F.F.S. member guide Eric Stroup spoke on Monday April 12th at a free public meeting of Penn's Woods West Trout Unlimited Chapter, His topic was "GETTING THE RIGHT DRIFT".. VFW Post 810, 3801 Clairton Blvd. (Rte. 51), Brentwood, PA... 2/10/10.. A.F.F.S. Director Mike Corblies is pleased to announce another new member to our growing list of Guides and Instructors.. Mr. Paul Healy operates a guide service based in Jim Thorpe, PA.  Paul has been guiding clients for a number of years in the Pocono Mountains for trout, smallmouth bass and other species.. Paul also has developed a good client base at the Jersey Shore the past few seasons conducting surf fishing trips for Stripers, Bluefish and Albies on the fly..  Paul has family that lives in the Toms River area where he hangs his hat when he is guiding saltwater species along the beaches.. Paul will be joining the Pro Staff at Captain Mike's Fly Shop in Island Heights, New Jersey this year and will be taking  clients on beach trips and back bay kayaking charters from the Shop starting this Spring..
